Do you love snapping up a bargain or finding well-made second hand items that will stand the test of time? Perhaps op shop hunting is your favourite hobby?
Whatever your reason, we’ve got three great op shops right here in Brighton to help you unearth some quality, pre-loved goods.
St Andrew’s Opportunity Shop, Brighton
Near the corner of bustling Church St in Brighton is St Andrew’s Opportunity Shop.
This charming and tidy shop offers a lot of homeware items such as ornaments, vases, statues and crockery. The store also sells used clothing, books, magazines, DVDs, videos, records, china, glassware, bric-a-brac, cameras, jewellery, watches and toys. The store, however, is not licensed to sell or accept donations of electrical goods.
Operated by The Anglican Parish Church of Saint Andrew, proceeds from the op shop’s sales are donated to various local organisations and charities including Bayley House, Brighton Red Cross, Brighton Secondary College Chaplaincy Fund, Brotherhood of St Laurence, Make-a-Wish and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, among many others. In 2014, the store raised more than $125,000 to donate to worthy causes.

Biccy’s Opportunity Shop, Brighton
At the southern end of Church St, near the corner of Male St, is Biccy’s Opportunity Shop.
Step inside the quaint store and you’ll instantly feel nostalgic for that traditional op shop atmosphere. Many of the homeware and linen items are reminiscent of 1950s-style decor with a fusion of more modern items. The store stocks a range of dinner sets, tea cups and serving platters as well as a dedicated section for clothing, hats, bags and shoes. They also have an extensive book collection.
Staffed by volunteers and with proceeds going to charity, this is a store with a true community feel. “We recycle quality items to raise money for charitable causes and worthy projects,” reads a sign at the front of the store.
