Celebrate National Op Shop Week in Brighton

The hunt for a great bargain brings joy to everyone, and with National Op Shop Week here again it’s time to share that joy!

This week, Brighton and communities throughout Australia, will celebrate the brilliance that is op shops by donating disused items, and scouring the shelves for cheap treasures.

To help celebrate, this year’s ambassador will be Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis. Costa will be styled in op shop sourced outfits by TV stylist Alex van Os, to highlight the quality that can be found in op shops.

Fashion with a Conscience

This year’s theme is ‘Fashion with a Conscience’, which is something we should be taking into account of every day.

Red Cross Shops Community Engagement Manager Kate Dear said shopping at op shops helped the wider community.

“All items purchased at Red Cross shops help support the everyday work of Red Cross such as bushfire and flood relief, providing safe drinking water and sanitation for remote communities, assisting new immigrants and ringing isolated and elderly people to check on their welfare.”

Collectively, Australia sends upwards of 15,000 tonnes of valuable items to landfill every year. By donating your long unworn clothes and unused home appliances’ to Brighton’s op shops you will be helping struggling families and individuals by providing access to affordable and quality goods.
