Five middle age women getting together to reminisce about their days at university sets the scene for an upcoming stage show in Brighton.
The Brighton Theatre Company production Hats Off!, written by local playwright Alison Campbell Rate, is a comedy that explores how the women will navigate their future and prepare for the second half of their lives.
The characters Harriet, Trinity, Gabi, Cassie and Michelle shared student housing in their university years and are catching up at Harriet’s holiday house in Daylesford.
Each of the women are in different stages of life and each have vastly different lifestyles.
It’s at Harriet’s holiday home that the friends come clean about long-held grudges, painful grief and uncertainties about their futures. The story shows how they help each other face their problems.
Director Denise Wellington encourages everyone to see the show.
“Hats Off! is a delightful play with something for everyone,” she said.
Ms Wellington said it was important for locals to support community theatre.
“Community theatre has been a part of my life for 35 years and it’s so rewarding. It develops community spirit and a creative outlet that forms personal bonds with people in the community,” she said.
Brighton Theatre Company has been bringing the community together with locally produced shows for 41 years.
“The theatre experience in Brighton is absolutely beautiful, it’s a lovely place to be,” Ms Wellington said.
